The Achenseeschifffahrt (Achensee shipping company) looks back on an eventful past. Abbot Albert Wildauer, who himself held a captain's licence, was the most important pioneer of the shipping industry. He commissioned the construction of a ship for Lake Achensee. The parts of the new ship were transported by rail to Jenbach and then by horse to Pertisau for assembly. The steam-powered "MS St. Josef" laid the foundation of the success story of the Achenseeschifffahrt in 1887.
Since the 2022 summer season, the Achenseeschifffahrt has been using readily degradable biofuels that significantly reduce local emissions. The company also supports projects that benefit the common good.
