1st Achensee Ski Touring Fun
The Achensee Ski Touring Fun celebrates the Olympic spirit of "it’s the taking part that counts." Inspired by the Olympic spirit of "it’s the taking part that counts", this event celebrates camaraderie, adventure, and the pure joy of ski touring. In teams of three, participants will conquer 490 metres of elevation, embracing teamwork and shared experiences along the way. Look forward to unforgettable moments, fantastic prizes, and, most importantly, a focus on fun and togetherness rather than competition.
The event took place on 22 February 2025 and the participants can look back on an unforgettable day.
Programme & route details
- Race number collection from 08.30 to 09.15 (confirmation of registration required). Each participant will receive two start numbers: one for the thigh and one for the rucksack.
- Gondola ascent from 08.30 a.m.
- Start time & route: The race begins on Saturday, 22 February 2025 at 10.00. The starting point is located on the plateau below the former Buchauer Alm (1.340m). From there, participants will ascend 490 metres of elevation on a groomed slope to the top station of the Rofan cable car. You can find the detailed route information at maps.achensee.com.
- Competition details:
- Participants compete in teams of three in an exciting ski touring challenge.
- The team that comes closest to the (secret) target time will take home amazing prizes, including

- Two refreshment stations along the way will keep you energized with snacks and drinks.
- Award ceremony: The award ceremony will take place approximately 30 minutes after the end of the Vertical Race.
- Raffle: Great raffle prizes
- After-race party with plenty of food, drinks, and live music. The festivities conclude at 16.30, followed by the descent with the Rofan cable car.
- Entry fee: EUR 120 per team, which includes attractive goodie bags filled with products and vouchers from partners such as Kneipp, Rox, Berglandmilch and Hagan, refreshments at the stations, pasta dishes at the race party, and an ascent and descent with the Rofan cable car for each participant incl. one accompanying person. Parking at the cable car is also included for all participants.
- Equipment: While SKIMO-compliant equipment is recommended, it is not mandatory for participation.
- Costumes: Costumes are highly encouraged to add to the fun and festive atmosphere of the event, but dressing up is entirely optional.
Route changes: The Rofan ski touring area can be explored using the winter/ski resort map available at www.rofanseilbahn.at. Please note that the organizer reserves the right to make last-minute route changes due to adverse weather conditions, such as avalanche risks.
Liability and insurance: Each participant is expected to have competition insurance that includes rescue coverage. The organizer assumes no liability for injuries, deviations from the designated route, or other risks - participation is entirely at your own risk. Basic alpine knowledge is required for all participants. Participants under the age of 18 must have written consent from a parent or guardian.
Regulations: The event follows the guidelines and standards of Skimo Austria.
From 8.30, spectators can take the gondola or alternatively, hike up to the event area. From the start/finish area, you will have an excellent view of the entire race. Celebrate from 13.00 at the race party with plenty of food, drinks, and live music. The festivities end at 16.30, followed by the descent with the Rofan cable car.
